Amy Brown

– Designer

Amy studied Architecture for 7 years at Sheffield University, gaining an interest in the relationships between fashion, architecture and interiors. She gained an interest in community consultation and following university worked at Groundwork and developed her experience in workshop facilitation and collaborative design. During a year out Amy travelled and worked on BSF School Design, looking after drawing packages for Tender and Construction.

I am interested in all aspects of design, whether it is a beautiful door handle, a couture gown or a creative take on regeneration.

Manchester is home and always has been. I love to travel but no-where tops it.

I love Shoes (usually ones I can’t walk in). One day I’d like to have a wall devoted to displaying my favourite ones.

I’m always on the lookout for new designers.  I find the design influences and processes of AMO and Rem Koolhaas very interesting as they continually challenge the relationships between fashion, global economy, social behaviour and the built environment.

I’m most inspired when I travel. New places, conversations, foods and cultures always fill me with the urge to design.

The most inspiring person I’ve ever met is my Mum. She is the strongest and most selfless person I know and never stops no matter what.

My Tweed Prada Shoes from Milan are my most valuable possession.

In 5 years I would like to be in a penthouse in Manchester City Centre, surrounded by family and friends and maybe a couple of puppies.

The last thing I wanted but couldn’t have was another puppy.

My favourite film is probably Shawshank Redemption.

One piece of advice for emerging designers is Always stay on the lookout… Carry a notebook/sketchbook around and record places you’ve been or things that have inspired you – you never know when it will come in handy!
